If you are tired of having a gap between your seats with nothing on which to rest your arm during a long drive then look no further. ECS has a solution to convert your center console to an armrest console in your VW Golf V. The instructions below will help you easily install your new armrest step by step. Let’s dig in!

Armrest Conversion Steps

1) Unpackage the kit contents.

2) Lift the armrest lid and remove the hardware bag.

3) Slide the rectangular base trim piece over the armrest metal post.

4) Slide the armrest metal post into the square hole in the base.

5) Attach the armrest post to the base using the internal hex head bolts and washers from the kit.

6) Snap the rectangular bolt hole trim cover into the back of the armrest base to cover the attachment bolts.

7) Drill four 5/32 holes in the armrest base for the attachment screws. (See general location below). 8) Tilt both of the front seat backs fully forward. Slide the front seats fully forward to make working room at the rear of the center console.

9) Place the arm rest assembly over the rear of the center console, covering the rear cup holder. Push it down flush.

10) Hold the armrest assembly in place and drill four 1/8 inch holes in the center console using the holes drilled in step 7 as guides.

11) Use the four Phillips head screws to attach the armrest base to the console.

Assemble all components on a work bench. Then install the armrest assembly as a unit.

Step 1

Installation hardware is packaged inside the armrest. Lift up on the front release button and raise the armrest lid.

Note: There are two releases on the front of the armrest.

• Lift up on the top bar to unlatch the lid and raise it.

• Push in on the lower bar to release the tilt lock to pivot the armrest up or down.

Step 2

Miscellaneous components:

• A trim conceal piece for the armrest base post.

• Two 8mm bolts with washers used to fasten the armrest post to the base

• Black rectangular plastic trim piece to cover the attachment bolts.

• Four small black Philips head screws used to attach the armrest to the base after it is assembled.

Step 3

Slide the trim conceal piece over the armrest base post, as shown. The piece is tapered, so install it with the “fatter” end facing rearward (arrow).

Step 4

Slide the armrest post into the base.

Step 5

Flip the base over.
Screw the mounting bolts through the holes in the base into the armrest post, and tighten them with a long hex driver or key.

Step 6

After the bolts are tightened, snap the rectangular trim piece into the base to cover the screw access hole.

Step 7

Drill two 5/32 inch holes on each side of the base (total four holes). See the illustration on page 3 of this tutorial for the general location.

Step 8

Push the front seats fully forward and tilt the seat backs forward to make working room at the rear of the center console.
Push the armrest assembly down tight over the console, and drill 1/8 inch holes, using the pilot holes drilled in step 7 as guides.

Step 9

Use the four black screws in the kit to attach the armrest base to the console.

Now you should have brand new armrest in your VW Golf V. Once again, thank you for purchasing the kit and enjoy your improved interior.
